New York Fashion Week: Men’s, which ran in early February, took over Lower Manhattan to showcase out the latest in men’s fashion enjoyed by celebrities and fashion bloggers alike. Jim Moore, the creative director of GQ magazine, said in a statement to The New York Times that the event is “more important than ever, now that it’s more established.”
Didn’t score a front row seat at the Ralph Lauren 50th anniversary show? Here are the runway and street style trends from NYFW:Men’s that publications like Esquire and GQ have on their radar.
1. Bomber Jackets
While showcasing Fall 2017 styles, nearly every designer had a bomber jacket in their collection, according to Esquire. Over sized, fitted, or with the sleeves rolled up, the jacket was shown, and worn on the street, with a variety of pant styles.
Runway lights aside, things were getting shiny. Satin jackets and pants are here for the upcoming spring. The styling of this trend is more akin to fashionable pajamas, rather than evening ware, writes GQ fashion writer Scott Christian.
4. Statement Shoes
Show street style watchers, such as Footwear News, have spotted bold statements for the upcoming seasons. From embroidered oxfords to designer lace up shoes, style gurus are sporting outfits build from the ground up. With the class of exotic skin shoes for men, many feet have been rocking floral-patterned boots. The simplicity of sneakers meets the intricacy of artisan shoes in this year’s range of styles.
5. Muted Tones
Breaking from the typical warm-weather color pallet, neutrals and muted colors are making a subtle, yet bold, statement as they are showing up from head to toe. White, beige, gray and olive are joining basic black in the minimalist color pallet that has been prevalent over past seasons.
With a new take on an old staple, designers used belts to pull NYFW looks together. On the classic side, men’s luxury leather belts showed up on trousers, often in non-traditional colors such as white. In a more artistic approach , some designers accessorized with tied materials, allowing the belt to dangle off the hips of their models.
Having pioneered classic twists on men’s style such as leather satchels, over-sized outerwear, and exotic skin shoes for men, New York’s fashion scene is home to the greatest style innovation. Channeling the male street style maven will help you take this year’s look to a bolder place.
